Ecological assessments can be requested by planning authorities under a range of guises such as Preliminary Ecological Assessment (PEA), Fossitt Assessment, Appropriate Assessment (AA), Natura Impact Statement (NIS) Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA).
An ecological assessment can be required for a development should the local authority predict that an action would have an impact on an ecological feature. This feature could be a designated site or a protected species or habitat.
